Communication is the imparting or exchange of information, ideas, thoughts between beings through time. Humans have devised various ways of communication since the caveman days. It is our ability to communicate well, which in turn makes us social beings that has led us to be the supreme creature on the planet. We, as cognitive , conscious beings have evolved greatly by the invention of language. But the story of communication starts earlier.
Thinking of objects to draw variations of, I as every other millennial, found myself in front of a computer screen. And after a notification beep from my cellphone, this thought kindled, maybe I should try to capture the evolution of how we as a species have communicated through time. I liked the idea as, we as conscious being like having a voice in the world, carve our names onto rocks for posterity in an attempt to surpass mortality.
Being alive in 2020 is to experience the golden age of communication. My grandparents tell of a tale where they had to write a letter and wait a month for a reply. And these days, they are totally mindblown when I am able to video call them from a different country for free.
My sketch of ‘50 renderings of Human communication’ roughly parallels its chronology. It explores verbs like speaking, writing, texting but also nouns like Trends, Protests. I hope the picture speaks a thousand words to you, takes you through a journey of time and realize just how fortunate we are.
